Draw wire sensor is convenient distance measurement device. Operation principle is simple. Mount the draw wire sensor and hook up the free end of it's wire to something that moves away from it. A potentiometer is spun upon pulling out the wire and this change of resistance is then converted to the output signal.

Draw wire sensor technical details:

  • Signal type:
    • 4-20mA (output can be "zeroed out" by rotating the enclosure with connector)
  • Max measuring distance:
    • 3000mm
  • Wire material:
    • 0,6mm diameter twisted multistrand stainless steel wire
  • Inner construction:
    • Built around 10 turn precision potentiometer
    • This unit's wire end has been managed formerly to snap in freely and as a result the multiturn potentiometer has been fucked (as would our Australian friends phrase it). This unite features an upgraded type of potentiometer, which features an internal clutch mechanism. This mechanism allows the potentiometer to continue turning further on, even that the specified 10 turns are up. This should at least in theory save the sensor's potentiometer when the wire snaps yet another time. We have no experience will it survive the full 3m snapping, but at least it should survive milder misuse. The stock potentiometer is dead on the spot the same moment, when you try to spin it beyond 10th revolution. This updated one has a fighting chance to survive accidents.
  • IP rating:
    • IP67
  • Electrical connection:
    • 4pin A-coded male M12 connector

Note that these kind of a sensors are easy to kill by cutting the extended wire! So avoid cutting the wire or letting the free end freely snapping into the sensor. Nevertheless if you manage to do so, we do have spare potentiometer available and we can also carry out the repair for you.
