An optical light sensor is one of the most commonly used sensors. The photocell therefore creates a beam of light from itself and monitors the amount of light reflected back to it. When a object enters the spotlight (or alternatively leaves it), the sensor registers the change in the reflection. If the change exceeds the threshold value, the sensor output changes it's state. Generally speaking, using this type of sensor for yes/no type information is easy and simple.
